Englert architectural representatives explain “solar sandwich” application of standing seam, solar thermal and photovoltaic laminates to architects in Biloxi, Miss.

More than 30 Gulf Coast architects, most of them from Mississippi, attended two days of seminars on integrated metal roofing and solar technology Feb. 9-10 in Biloxi.

Topic of the seminar was “The Solar Sandwich,” an explanation of how LEED-compliant cool metal roofing is the pivotal component for Englert Inc’s, SunNet BIPV solar photovoltaic laminates and the Dawn Solar Thermal system.

The sessions featured examples of how the systems work together on existing residential and commercial structures and how the three can earn more than 20 LEED credits, and saving 20 percent to 80 percent on a building’s energy costs.

Englert sponsored the seminars. Sessions were led by Englert staff including, Butch Dubecky, southeast sales director; Mark Halbert, sales representative for Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana; Bill Dooley, architectural representative for Florida and the Caribbean Islands; and John Silvia, southeast architectural sales representative.

Also speaking at the seminar was Frank Hogan of S-5 who addressed the use of metal roofing clips used expressly for attaching crystalline photovoltaic panels and other rooftop components to standing seam. Charities Barnes of Englert coordinated the two-day program.

Architects interested in learning more about the solar sandwich can contact Jerry Heininger at 973-826-8614.
